Orphan Airlift
On April 5, 1975, Sea-Tac Airport was converted into a gigantic nursery and adoption center when 419 Vietnamese orphans, accompanied by 72 caretakers arrived by a Pan Am 747 jet.
Greeting the orphans were their adoptive parents and dozens of volunteer workers. About one-third of the orphans were flown to Chicago and New York. The airlift was arranged by Holt Children's Services in Eugene, Oregon, which pioneered to program to find homes for the orphans.
